Lesson objectives: complementary colors, dry brush, rough paper.
Colors: Hansa yellow, yellow ochre, orange, burnt sienna, cobalt blue, perm rose.
Step 1: Sketch the outline of the oranges and paint the shadows with a mix of cobalt blue and a touch of perm rose or alizarin crimson.
Step 2: Paint the cut oranges’ top with a light wash of yellow. Use a brush with a fine tip and leave some tiny white spaces as shown.
Step 3: Paint the peel of the half oranges. Paint light to dark. Start with a yellow-orange mix and add more paint and a touch of burnt sienna for the bottom part.
Step 4: Continue to paint the peel as shown in the picture.
Step 5: After the paint has dried, mix dark orange with burnt sienna. Create texture by using an almost dry brush flat on the surface. You can add a few dots of B.S. on dry paint!
Step 6: Make orange juice and drink it.
